St Dominic's, Camberwell

Preaching and celebrating the Good News of Jesus

The Dominicans (the Order of Preachers)

Picture
The Order of Preachers was founded by Saint Dominic Guzman to preach the Catholic Faith at a time when many in Europe and beyond were ignorant of it.  St Dominic was a contemporary of St Francis of Assisi, and indeed the friars of both orders were part of the same movement of reform in the Church.

In 1924 the parish of Camberwell East was entrusted to the Dominicans - as the Friars Preachers are more commonly known - and they continue to serve the parish today.
